A ~12 day vacation with brothers Rich and Tom, visiting Belize and the Mayan ruins at Tikal (in Guatemala). This trip began with 2 wonderful days birding at Crooked Tree Lagoon in Belize and in the nearby Mayan ruins of Lamanai. We then spent 5 days on Lighthouse Reef atoll, ~50 miles offshore, on a tiny island, kayaking, skorkeling, fishing, and watching the extensive breeding bird colony. After returning to the mainland, we traveled to the western side of Belize for 5 more days (including two nights in Tikal), roaming the ruins, enjoying the birds and wildlife, exploring caves, and swimming in the rivers.
